This is what an actual colour palette looks like →

Most people spin an online colour palette generator that throws a few colours as a palette. But that is not a brand colour palette. You need more than 3 colours to create eye catching designs that people will love instantly.

It’s difficult to design elements with just 3 colours unless you want your designs to look like this →

You need multiple colour variants to create harmony in your design.

Here’s how an aesthetic design looks like →

To create eye catching colour palettes just like me, follow this simple 5 step process →

1. Begin with your original colour in HSB format

Now imagine a line like this →

2. Make 2 boxes

For the first box, select colour from the top left extreme of the line.

And for the second box, select a colour from the bottom right extreme of the line.

This will give us the 2 extreme variants - 100 and 900

3. Make 2 boxes between the 3 colours

For the first box, select colour in between the 100 variant and the original colour.

And for the second box, select colour in between the original colour and the 900 variant.

This adds the variants 300 and 700.

4. Make 4 boxes between the 5 colours

For each new box, select colour between its previous and next box’s colour.

This gives the variants 200, 400, 600 and 800.

5. Finally, make 2 boxes on the ends

For the first box, pick a little more extreme colour than the 100 variant.

And for the second box, pick a little more extreme colour than the 900 variant.

This gives the variants 50 and 950.

Repeat this process for all the brand colours to create an eye catching colour palette →

Now use this palette to create all types of designs from subtle backgrounds, punchy headlines to CTAs.

By using this strategic approach you can make good looking palettes consistently.
